Hey there, just a question about what sizes of alloys and tyres etc are popular for mx5's.
I'm currently running completely stock 'daisy' alloys and looking to get wider dishier rota alloys. I'm set on 15" because its an upgrade from the standard 14" but not sure on width? And I'm not sure about offset and things like "9j or 8j" see a lot of people talking about that. I'm also aware that the lower and wider you go, you may need to do some arch work or have some stretch on the tyres.
Anyone got any advice as to where to start when choosing alloy size etc.?
Thank you in advanced!

Hey morgan! Quite often when you see a J after a number in wheel sizes, that number is the width in inches. You'll usually see an offset like "ET +30" or "-2 ET". Here's a little article that helps explain it: www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/techpage.jsp?techid=101And 15x8" around ET+15 or ET+10 is probably about the most common aftermarket Miata wheel size. I'd definitely say it's a good place to start for both wheel and tire selection.

Aha! That has cleared some things a bit! Should hopefully make it easier choosing some decent alloys now

I'm going to be getting 15x9 et 0 so they will have some poke and I will need to roll and slightly pull my fenders if that helps. lol

It helps a lot! Lets me know what needs to be done for wide wheels! For an NA, at a certain width you will probably have to run flares. It just depends what size rim and tire you are running. Also depends what you are going to apply your miata to (drifting, track, stance, etc).

Well I want my car to be set up for drifting because that's why I bought it, (cheap to insure only being 18) but also love the look of "stance" maybe it's a case of not have both? :/

If you don't have a lot of power you're probably going to want to run the stock 14" while drifting.

Stock wheels are great for drifting because tires are cheap, they're disposable and light. No reason you can't drift on stock power on some 8 or 9 inch wide wheels though. Just need skinny tires.

I run 15x8 with a 20 offset and I have to roll my fenders flat and adjust my bumper, and fender liner but other than that they fit great. I like it cause it is functional but still somewhat stanced. If your going to run a 20 offset or anything more aggressive just make sure you slam your ride, otherwise in my opinion it looks like crap and cheap.

Yeah I was going to run the standard wheels to drift anyway (just change them at the track) but I'd like wider wheels just for cruising round the streets! Haha

Since you're keeping your stock wheels as drift sets, I'd go for some 9's for street wheels if you want some meat! I like the look of a Miata with wide rubber ready to go. (rofl)

Your stockies are perfect for driftspares! Do you have any wide wheels you've seen, or styles at least, in mind?

I'm a deep dish/lip rim kinda guy Well, we have the very common but very cool Diamond Racing Steelies Pros : They're cheap. Cons : They're heavy. I'd post more about them, but their website is under construction... or so it appears. But I say you take your own personal style and reflect it through your car. Do something different!

And do they come with tires? Do you have access to stretching?

Did you get them for a good price? Yeah super duper good price. Neighbor and I are good friends. And do they come with tires? Do you have access to stretching? Yeah they come with tires. When the time comes to replace them, I have connections to getting the rubber a little stretched.

I was thinking 195/45's. The tires it's got on now are good enough for me, I just don't know the size. I would ask my friend but he's a firefighter and is super busy lol
