Long nose all the way. I think I posted in your other thread. I admire you for taking on such a huge project! Most people would only keep working on a car like that if it was a labor of love, let alone buy someone else's like that! So want to share the deal you got on it with us? Or the crazy race/drift car you're building?

Well this guy that I bought the miata from was selling it for $1200 and all that he knew about it was that the harmonic balancer wouldn't stay on. I bought it willing to pull the engine and clean the engine bay and the engine. I have plenty of resources including this fantastic forum along as friends and neighbors. That is why I was so willing to tear it down and learn some new stuff. The car also came with a double hump roll bar and also an extra set of wheels with 1 cracked racing dymanics rim.

and I just ordered the crankshaft from Rockauto.com, it should be here in 2 weeks and in the meantime I am going to take the block to a machine shop to get it checked out. What exactly should I tell the machine shop I want them to do? I would ask them to check the block for cracks and straightness but is there anything else I am forgetting?

The Crankshaft that I originally ordered was out of stock and is no longer in the stores inventory... sooo I decided to take the crank to a local machine shop to get the journals grinded so now I will be using undersized rod and main bearings. They are also checking the crank for straightness, as well as repairing the broken key way that is on the nose. The total came to $200 so I figured its worth repairing rather than buying a non oem crank for $270 or so.

Does Mazda not sell an oem crank? I'm sure you can get one somewhere. Hell id put a wtb thread out for a long nose.

I just picked up the crank from the machine shop. It cost me $200 for the keyway to be repaired as well as grind the journals. I got new pistons and .25mm oversize main and rod bearings. I will be reusing the rods. The block should be done by Saturday and then hopefully I can start assembling it all back together Sunday. Progress is slow but its still coming along.
