Does anybody have any suggestions on what crankshaft I should buy for my 1995 miata? The current one that is in there has the wood ruff channel sheered off, I haven't removed it yet, but I plan on doing it within the next week.

Well, if it isn't a longnose crankshaft, you need to get on that!
From what i've heard at least, you want longnose over the shortnose.
I have no idea where from though! Good luck!

So gnarly if that's so.
He probably had a shortnose crankshaft.

I have been in your shoes before, you had a SNC and they are notorious for crank wobble and eventually failure if not addressed. I got my first NA with a bit of crank wobble and it continued to worsen till I swapped a newer 1.6 in. I too had plans for just replacing the crank but wjen I started to add up the cost of a rebuild I was in way over the price of a low milage complete engine.
FWIW I think this should be in the engine section as you would probably get more help there.

Thread moved. I would definitely start off by looking for a long nose crank. Never install a short nose crank into any Miata without the proper precautions, it's like setting someone up for failure. Here is a link to one of m.net's great tech articles. www.miata.net/garage/crankshaft.html

My current NA has a SNC also but does not have any wabble, I check it every oil change and torque it if need be. Fingers crossed it lasts a long time!

Same exact situation for the past two years since we've owned the Boss Performance Miata. No issues yet either and I've never tightened it, but it's still a concern.

You know what really sucks, when I swapped in my newer 1.6 with LNC I got crank wobble on that one but then repaired it with a new key and pulley boss.

all 1.8 cranks are the same. so you can grab a crank from any na8 or any nb and it will work just fine. short nose cranks were only around in the first two years of the na6 (89-90...or 90-91 depending on how you count model years)
a wobbley crank can happen to long nose cranks too - ask me how i fucking know.
i'd hit up planet-miata or project-g or one of the other well known used miata parts places to see what you can get. should be around 150 shipped or so...
i actually just sold one a few months ago. good luck!

I still feel the same way about a bad crank regardless of displacement, if the crank is bad it will be cheaper to get a whole low milage engine. Not to mention how easy it is to install them.
