I have been to Rallying as long as I can remember. As soon as I had my first car and the freedom to go wherever I wanted I went to my first Special Stage on the Coast of Washington. When I was young I told my best friend that I would someday own a Subaru, thinking that the STI was the best thing ever built, then I grew up ().
Fast forward to the end of last year and the search for a great AWD car for under $5k, I may have found it.
I bring you the:
Toyota Celica All-trac Tubro aka the GT4 ST165
I bought this car in mostly stock condition, from a very meticulous owner. After the first test drive I fell in love with this almost forgotten beast of a car, a true Homologation Rally Car unlike the Evos and STIs of today.
Stock these weren't the fastest of cars, and being an early AWD car it weighed quite a bit (3270
lb) and only 190 horse leading to a W/P. However this car, came with a few nice features to set it up for greatness; enter the 3S-GTE.
Of course the early versions of motors are never the best, but who needs perfection when you can interchange parts form later and better generations all the while being able to make glorious amounts more power. Without opening the motor up, or replacing fuel items, the 3s can easily reach almost 300 hp.
However that is not the case with my car.
As I previously stated, when i bought my All trac it was well kept, but the owner kept it quite stock. He even kept the original shocks and springs in it, so you can see what Im up against.
The first Mods I have done to it include replacing the Non-stock steering wheel with one I bought for my Miata a while back, and a very necessary boost gauge.
I then bought it a sexyJDMgoodness HKS Tubro Timer.
Next I will be replacing the old worn out brake pads and rotors, along with a full fluid flush (no picture of parts as they are in route).
After the refresh I will be fixing the wiring issue I have with the Headlight relay, and picking up Tein coils for a ST185, to which I will drill out the front hubs to have the fit with the ST185s bolts.
Hopefully I will have more pictures of the car in the near future.
Hope this build thread is worthy of being able to say the "Yota" thread started off strong.
